Sustainable travel in finland, frequently asked questions
Our Sustainable Travel Finland (STF), and ECEAT labels are ready. Working in a sustainable travel, and tourism in Finland is a part of our lifestyle: We keep the horses in natural boarding conditions. Regular examinations of the animal well being are done by the local vets.
We do not keep the iron shoes on our horses, to save the horses’ feet and hooves from any unnatural material. Our private forestery paths are kept sustainable during our trail rides, when the horses have no ironed shoes on them.
The horses hoof care in a natural way keeps them healthy: The blood circulation of the hooves, and therefore the whole horse body well being is holistically taken care of, when the hoof care is natural.
We keep natural trimming method hoof care courses on our farm in Simo. We have also customers, who wants us to trim their horses and ponies hooves, in order to learn this sustainable, healthy hoof care method.
The winter coat of the horse living in natural boarding conditions is strong. The long winter hair keeps the rain, cold and snow on the top of the winter hair, and the horse’s skin is warm.
Living in a small, private farm is a very sustainable, ecological way of life. We have no mass tourism, nor any big groups around us, nor any big traffic. We belong to the sustainability program ECEAT, www.eceat.fi.
In the programs of ECEAT and STF companies working with us are also required to get to the process of sustainable travel and tourism. We belong to the Original Lapland marketing network, and to Visit Rovaniemi organisation. Both of our marketing networks have already their sustainable travel and tourism in Finland labels ready.
In the sustainable travel and tourism we advice you how to get close to us by a public transport. Read more about the public transfer closest to us below.
Transportation
The closest bus stop to our stables is Simo, near to the road number 4/E75. The closest airport is Kemi-Tornio airport. The closest train station: Kemi.
During the summer months June, July and early August we have a transport inclusive safaris from Rovaniemi bus or train station to the island of horses in Rovaniemi.
If the public transport is late, we can move your safari time until you arrive to Simo bus stop, Kemi railway station or Kemi bus station. Notice to ask the bus driver to stop in Simo, if you arrive on bus. You must let us know if you can not arrive on time to the bus stop or trains station in Kemi, then only we can arrange a later safari time for you.
Cancellation policy: all the safaris, that you wish to cancel, must be cancelled 48 hours before the starting time of the safari in Finnish time. Arriving late causes your own loss of time and money.
We do not make any refunds, if the cancellation is due to the customers’ own reason or wish. In case you are asking for refunds, you must have your own travel insurance, or a free time insurance, that covers your refunding requests due to falling of a horse, or due to any accidents or sickness.
Any food allergies or diets must be communicated when you’re booking. Even if you have already made a reservation beforehand, please confirm that your special needs have been noted if you are paying to the other tourist leaders.
In a sustainable farm living we often eat meat produced in our own farm, or in the closest slaughterhouse. If you book a whole day safari, please let us know about any food allergies or diets you have before arriving to the farm.
Our vegetables come from the farms close by Simo, or by local farmers. Any arctic berries you may wish to taste are picked up by local forest village berry pickers.
We welcome all the people and families as they are, no matter where do you come from.
INSURANCES: We have only a liability insurance, but in case of falling from a horse, you must have your own travelling or a sport insurance, if you wish to have insurances. We give you the riding teaching, and we are here to be guides for you, but as working with animals, we can never trust 100% that the riders would stay on a horse in a balance demanding positions.
Cancellation policy
Other companies sell our trips with their own transport and winter clothing fees included with a higher price mostly.
If you book through another company, we can not return our fees, due to your own cancellation or arriving late.
If you buy our safaris by the online shop, please notice, that we do not give any refunds, if you cancel the safari later than 48 hours before the starting time of the safari.
The online selling takes their comission fee in any case, and only a smaller amount will arrive to our account. In case of cancellation we can return maximum the amount that has arrived to us, not the online shop account money.
Driving iN Lapland by yourself?
If you plan to arrive by driving a rented car yourself, please drive slowly and carefully as there are often reindeers and moose on the road. Roads can also be very slippery on the winter time.
Please also notice that the navigator easily looses the signal on the forest road, so look for the address in the Google Maps before you are on your way.
We welcome you
Our main stables are located in Vianjoentie 138 which is a part of Simo commune in Lapland, Finland.
